Life-saving equipment on Eastbourne seafront was vandalised on the weekend.

Five lifebuoys were damaged at the western end of the beach with at least one being burnt.

A spokesperson for Eastbourne Borough Council said, “Four of them have already been replaced and a fifth is on order.

“It is vital that this life-saving equipment is not interfered with, removed or stolen – they could save someone’s life.

“To tamper with this equipment is an offence and those found responsible could face prosecution.”
