Two fraudsters from Sussex will have to pay back the proceeds of their crimes after together pocketing £780,000 from a Brighton company.

The pair worked for the Brighton branch of Bombardier Transportation UK, a company which is responsible for maintenance of all Southern Railway trains across the South East.

Sussex Police said Andrew Saunders, 53, of Benjamin Grey Drive, Wick, Littlehampton, and his co-defendant Roy George, 56, of Roderick Avenue North, Peacehaven, were ordered to pay back some of the proceeds of the crime.

Police explained how Saunders was the ‘mastermind’ behind the fraud, and spent cash on a ‘lavish lifestyle’ including motorbikes, hot tubs and holidays.

He has been ordered to repay £85,144.60, police said, a fraction of the £786,460 he received from the crime.

George would have to repay the full £118,000 he was found to have benefitted from, police said.

Sentencing

The pair had already been sentenced for their parts in the fraud at Hove Crown Court in October last year.
