Donation towards play equipment

Youngsters at Bourne School have brand new outdoor equipment to play on, thanks to a donation from Devonshire ward councillors.

Councillors Steve Holt and Steve Wallis agreed to donate £1,000 to the Melbourne Road primary school through the devolved budget scheme.

The school is located in the heart of a residential area and lacks outdoor space.

Therefore, staff are keen to ensure that there is a range of games, toys and equipment for the children to use to make their playtimes interesting and fun.

It’s hoped that the new equipment will encourage the children’s social skills and enhance learning opportunities as they play.

The new equipment, toys and games are designed to appeal to children of all ages.

John Maxwell, headteacher at Bourne School, said, “We are very grateful to our local councillors for their support.

“The new toys and equipment have provided the children with the opportunity to use their imaginations to create their own games, as well as play more traditional sports.”

Cllr Holt said, “We were pleased to be able to fund the new equipment through the devolved budget. It’s so important for children to have a range of activities to take part in during outdoor play and I could see how much they enjoy playing on it when I visited the school.”

Councillors have also funded the planting of new trees in the Devonshire ward. They spent £1,500 on two birch trees at Seaside Rec and four other trees in Cavendish Avenue.
