HOW outrageous of the government inspector to spend so much time discussing the architectural style of the proposed McCarthy & Stone development on the corner of Church Street and Fitzalan Road, Littlehampton, when they have already built a block of 42 flats only 50 yards away.

We all know of the diverse styles in Littlehampton.

It would appear more likely that he was trying to deflect interest from the real objections: the economic and local consequences of this development and its further burden on resources.

What price democracy when town and district councils and our MP are against the development and their views are ignored?

We are likely to lose our local post office, and much time and energy has been spent on trying to secure our local hospitals.

These amenities are for the people who already live here.

How on earth are the services supposed to cope with the influx of probably at least 100 frail, elderly people, when the new hospital across the road, if we get it, is proposed to have around 20 beds?

What about the overloaded, stinking drains in Church Street?

Where is the evidence of need for this accommodation?

Where are the staff to run it coming from?

Why should a community like Littlehampton, which already has some of the most deprived areas in West Sussex, have to suffer yet more pressure, especially since, even the inspector himself admitted, the town seemed already well supplied with accommodation for the elderly.
