The suggested scheme would involve using the entrance and exit lane of the car park as the drive-thru lane with an entrance into the car park just off the current entrance.
The council believes this would create extra space for cars to wait for the drive-thru, which would take them off the highway and relieve congestion at this point.

Hide AdCouncil leader Robert Eggleston said: “Since being elected in May 2019, the town council has been trying to get all parties to address the issue of congestion at this junction and it has been a cause of frustration for us and residents that the issue has not been addressed.
“The proposal does mean that there will be some modest changes to the configuration of the car park and the lanes into it but these should be manageable. The benefits for other residents trying to get across town will hopefully mean that these changes are worth making.”
The town council came up with the proposal after being unable to get congestion easing measures included in the town-wide Place and Connectivity project last year.
The suggestion will be sent to civil engineers for costing and review and will then be submitted to Mid Sussex District Council for consideration.
