SLIDESHOW: Young people praised in County Times Youth Awards

Across the 15 categories, there were inspiring stories of young people giving up their time for others and how some had overcome disability and adversity to achieve. The awards in the order they were presented were: Individual Sport - Daniel Jones. Daniel who gets up at 4.30am to start a rigorous training regime, which has enabled him to get to the British Nationals in August. Community Sport - Vince Everitt. A student at Forest School, Vince is the schools’ Sports captain supporting the younger pupils develop their talent as well as being a peer mentor for those struggling in school. Team Sport - Pulborough Under 18s Girls Rugby Team, who are the English Champions this year. Creative Arts - Bie Wright, a Collyer’s photography student, who ‘against a background of worries and upheavals’ has excelled in her education achieving high grades in all subjects. Performing Arts - Kieran Boulton who is Forest School’s very own comedian and has performed at The South Bank, The Edinburgh Festival and The Comedy Club. Media - Katie Chapman, who is leader of Weald Radio at The Weald School. Volunteer - Sean Richardson, who gave up time in his gap year to volunteer at Age UK Horsham District, and has done so ever since. Fundraiser - Chloe Parrott, who was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago and has since raised £2,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Fundraising Group - Millais Fundraisers: Grace Chandler, Georgia Garman, Jemima Shier, Caitlin Standen, who organised a fashion show for St Catherine’s Hospice Entrepreneur - Morgan Boult, who started writing and selling the Business for Boys magazine aged eight and now also has a mini shop selling sweets, gifts, cards and chocolate. Leadership - Thomas Russell, who has set up a support group for lower school aged pupils at Weald School experiencing difficulties socialising with their peers. Ambition - Alfie Jallow, a Millais pupil, who has refused to let dyslexia get in the way of a dream to be on the stage. Inspiration - Emily Pink, who goes to Millais School and amazes her peers for how she deals with her cystic fibrosis and diabetes. Personal Achievement - Jeffrey Shum Sze Long, a 17-year-old from Hong Kong who has become the youngest pupil to enrol at The College of Richard Collyer. He already has five AS Grades and is taking five A2 subjects this year. Courage - Willow Reed-Barnes, who has inspired her friends for always finding time to care for others, despite being in constant pain due to a genetic disability.
