Bexhill ace teams up with ex-Olympic star

Mitchell raced with Tim Male at the Metropolitan Regatta on the weekend of June 4 and 5, and the 161st Marlow Regatta last weekend.
Both events were held at the Olympic venue, Dorney Lake, and the pair were hoping to secure automatic qualification for next week’s Henley Royal Regatta.

Hide AdThey came second behind the Great Britain under-23 double at the Metropolitan Regatta and then won the elite double at Marlow.
Due to the high calibre of entries at Henley this year, however, despite this being an Olympic year, they will have to qualify in a time trial tomorrow (Friday).
Male represented Great Britain in the lightweight four at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and a year later won a bronze medal in the lightweight men’s single scull at the Eton World Cup.
Bexhill Rowing Club, meanwhile, will seek to continue its quest for a 16th consecutive Coast Amateur Rowing Association title at the Eastbourne Regatta this coming Saturday.

Hide AdLast weekend’s Folkestone Regatta was cancelled due to the choppy conditions, meaning Bexhill remain 83 points clear of second-placed Shoreham at the top of the league standings.
