Two goals in the space of 60 first-half seconds gave Rebels back-to-back home league wins for the first time this season. They moved up a place to ninth in the Ryman League Division 1 South table with the win and completed the double over Sittingbourne, who started the day in fifth place. Billy Medlock netted a penalty on his home debut before Scott Kirkwood added a second 60 second later. Worthing’s two-goal lead lasted just two minutes as Joe Taylor held off three challenges and fired home a low 20-yarder to halve the deficit on 29 minutes, but that was the way it stayed. Collins said: “They were the form team in the league and in fifth place and it’s a good three points for us. “We’ve just been a little bit too inconsistent. We didn’t perform last week at Whitstable and we knew that, so we needed a performance today and we did that – it was a similar performance to our win over Ramsgate in our last home match. “The three lads on their debuts were excellent and it was also a fantastic performance from Billy, on his home debut. “There’s no reason why we can’t get into the play-off mix but we’ve just got to keep picking up points.” Worthing are away to Crawley Down Gatwick on Saturday, then host Walton & Hersham on Tuesday. Defender Steve Metcalf returns from suspension, while Rebels also hope to have received international clearance for Freddie Barker and Niko Pinilla. Full report in this week’s paper.
